nádherný exemplář je poddruh Barycypraea fultoni fultoni, byl vyloven u
pobřeží Jihoafrické republiky, oblast KwaZulu-Natal, místo Rampsgate z
hloubky 75 m. V současnosti má druh Barycypraea fultoni dva geneticky
oddělené poddruhy. První podruh Barycypraea fultoni amorimi tvoří
mozambická populace, která je známá zejména z 90. let 20. století, kdy zde
bylo vyloveno až několik stovek lastur tohoto poddruhu. Druhý poddruh
Barycypraea fultoni fultoni tvoří jihoafrická populace. Lastury z
jihoafrické populace jsou mnohem vzácnější než lastury z mozambické
populace. Rozdíly mezi oběma poddruhy jsou patrné zejména při vzájemném
porovnání obou poddruhů. Poddruh Barycypraea fultoni fultoni je typicky z
průměrných výsledků měření menší, plošší, těžší a při stejné délce má méně
zubů, "tips" jsou krátké a při pohledu z hřbetní strany nejsou
vidět.
Lastura byla vylovena mrtvá, má velmi dobrou kvalitu, drobná
poškození viditelná na fotkách. Video na požádání. Tento poddruh je velmi
vzácný a lastury vylovené živé dosahují cen v řádech násobků ceny této lastury.
This beautiful specimen is a subspecies of Barycypraea
fultoni fultoni, and was caught off the coast of South Africa, KwaZulu-Natal,
at Rampsgate, at a depth of 75 m. Currently, the species Barycypraea fultoni
has two genetically distinct subspecies. The first subspecies, Barycypraea
fultoni amorimi, is the Mozambican population, which is known mainly from the
1990s, when several hundred shells of this subspecies were caught there. The
second subspecies, Barycypraea fultoni fultoni, is the South African population.
Shells from the South African population are much rarer than shells from the
Mozambican population. The differences between the two subspecies are
especially noticeable when comparing the two subspecies to each other. The
subspecies Barycypraea fultoni fultoni is typically smaller, flatter, heavier
and has fewer teeth at the same length, the tips are short and not visible when
viewed from the dorsal side.
The shell was caught dead, it is of very good quality, minor
damages visible in the photos. Video on request. This subspecies is very rare and
shells caught alive reach prices in the order of multiples of the price of this
shell.
